Some of Rob Coldwell's Paintings
Because this is my website I can put anything I like here. So, in a moment of madness I decided to put some of my watercolour, oil, and acrylic paintings in a (very basic) gallery. Click here to see some of my work (some I'm proud of, others are not so great!)

Chromakey effect within Blender sequencer

It might come as a surprise to some of you but you can do blue screen and green screen effects without having to leave Blender. Briefly, here's how...

Import your background footage and your bluescreen foreground footage as strips into the sequence editor, you can then apply a chromakey effect using a plugin. The plugin can be found here..

http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~mein/blender/plugins/sequence/chromakey_rgb/index.html

Save the plugin file to your blender directory. Then in Blender, select the foreground strip (right click) then shift select the background strip. Then shift A to add an effect. Choose plugin and point to the plugin you downloaded. Now, with the plugin effect strip selected, press n to adjust the effect and bingo! Cool or what?

A full tutorial on this technique and other video compositing techniques coming to upperfold soon!

Rob's Top Ten Tips for Making Better Movies

If you're new to film or video making, following a few simple rules of thumb can make a huge difference to your results. Of course, as you gain experience and depending on the kind of programme you're making, these rules can be bent or even intentionally broken. However, as a general guide, follow these tips and you will be amazed at how much better your efforts will be.

Blender 2.3x now available for FREE download

Based on feedback and research the past months, Blender's interface has been updated and improved. Most of the work has been in good old code cleaning and reorganizing, in adding complete new UI functionality and in a thorough information design process to make both navigating and learning Blender easier. The "looks" has changed as well, matching better with contemporary desktop environments. Work on all of this is still in progress, expect more updates in upcoming releases.

Download Blender now and start using the only professional open source 3D suite worth looking at.

Blender is now officially Open Source!

Yes the 'Free the Sources' campaign was a spectacular success, raising more than the 100k Euros required. This means that Blender is now officially Open Source software and the source code is now available at the brand new home of Blender - www.blender.org

Many thanks and huge congratulations to Ton Roosendaal and all those who helped him make this a reality.
